Overall Thoughts:

The Asus PG258Q is a great gaming monitor with incredible specs for $529 dollars. It has a refresh rate of 240hz, 1ms response time, and it has the g-sync technology which helps eliminate screen tearing for a faster and smoother gameplay. When it comes to gaming, the monitor is an absolute BEAST!! With a high refresh rate, low response time, and the g-sync technology, it creates an amazing gaming experience. One thing that I really like is the price to performance because for $529 dollars, you are getting top notch specs. The design of the monitor looks really unique especially with the LED light which is so cool! You can't change the color but at least having some LED lights is awesome. The LED light produces the Asus symbol but you can use a customized drawing or your own logo simply by using a glass piece, which is provided in the box. Also, the monitor does not wobble at all so if you occasionally bump into your desk, it stays still which is very impressive. The only thing that I dislike about this monitor is the amount of space it takes up on your desk. Now this is not a huge complaint but the stand is a little wider so the monitor a pushed out a little. If you have a small desk it might take up a little space but its not a huge complaint, just something to take note of.

Now can you notice the 240hz refresh rate, is it worth it or even necessary? The answer is not really. I would say the sweet spot is 144hz-165hz and after that it becomes really hard for the human eye to notice a difference. I personally would say the 240hz refresh rate is not worth it and you can get the same gaming experience with other gaming monitors on the market. For example, The Dell S2716DGR is an awesome gaming monitor with 144hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, and it has the g-sync technology. It's also the same price if not a little cheaper and with that you are getting a 27 inch instead of the 24 inch. With all of that being said, the Asus PG258Q overall is fantastic gaming monitor with an awesome design. Gaming on this monitor is an absolute awesome experience and if you are coming from a 60hz monitor, you will notice a HUGE difference. There are some things to consider. So first, when it comes to hardware, I would suggest a gtx 1080, 1080ti and I would say the cutoff would be the gtx 1070. What about the screen size, is 24 inch big enough or is it small? Is 27 inch better? I would say for gaming its awesome but when I was cruising the web, it felt like everything was a little squished but that's just my personal opinion. 27 inch gaming monitors are great as well and cruising the web is really nice on a bigger monitor.

Now this mainly comes down to personal preference because some people think 27 inch is too big and there is alot going and 24 inch is awesome because its the right size. But at the same time there are others that like a 27 inch gaming monitor because they like a bigger screen. So its really up to you in that aspect. The Asus PG258Q has a TN panel. What about an IPS panel, should you get that instead? Well, a TN panel typically does not have the best color accuracy or color reproduction and also the viewing angles produce a yellowish tint and the colors look a little washed out. Whereas an IPS panel has great color accuracy and color reproduction. Does that mean you should go for a IPS panel instead? Well it depends on a few factors. So if this monitor will be sitting right in front of you and you will use it mainly for gaming and casual cruising the web and not super picky on the best colors, then the Asus PG258Q is a fantastic gaming monitor. However, if you will also being doing things like photo editing and you need great colors or you personally want a gaming monitor with awesome colors, then an IPS monitor might be for you. There are two IPS gaming monitor that are absolutely awesome and they are the Asus PG279Q and the Acer XB271HU. Overall this a great gaming monitor with a very sleek design and high end specs!
