Overall Thoughts: The Samsung LC49HG90 CHG90 is an amazing gaming monitor with high end specs and a huge 49 inch curved screen. I bought this monitor on sale for $999 and it usually retails for $1,499 and it has a VA panel with a resolution of 3840 x 1080, 144hz refresh rate (you need to use a display port cable to achieve this), 1ms response time, freesync technology, HDR compatible, and it has the QLED technology. As far as how wobbly it is on your desk, I would say it's not really wobbly but at the same time it's not stable and it wobbles a little but that's not a huge complaint but just something to take note of. Also, this monitor does have built in speakers, they are not that great and sound like your typical computer speaker but it's still really nice to have. Now right off the bat, one thing that I really like about the Samsung LC49HG90 is the 49 inch curved screen. This actually covers the same territory as 2 27inch monitors with an aspect ratio of 16:9 and when you combine that with the curved design, it creates an immersive experience.
So one of the areas where this monitor really shines is productivity. You can run multiple browsers and any other application and with such a large screen, it feels very organized and absolutely amazing having everything on one monitor, especially if you are trying to get work done. Also, you can do a PIP, Picture in Picture and game on one half of the monitor and run other applications on the other half. Video editing on the Samsung LC49HG90 CHG90 is amazing because you have everything stretched out and really easy to navigate and keep everything organized. If you are a content creator or do a lot of video editing, then you will love video editing on this monitor! One thing to note here is that if you watch a YouTube video full screen, it's going to display it as a 16:9 aspect ratio but that's not to say there are not any videos that display a 32:9 aspect ratio.
Next what I really like about this monitor and is very impressive is the image quality. The colors look absolutely beautiful and it has great color reproduction and great color accuracy and the colors stay consistent when you view it from different angles. Now the reason why I said this is impressive is because this monitor has 1ms response time which only TN panels have. TN panels don't have the best color reproduction and color accuracy and when you view it from different angles, the colors look washed out and it can produce a yellowish tint. Now the way this monitor can achieve 1ms response time and have great colors at the same time is because the QLED technology allows VA based panels to achieve a TN-panel-level 1ms pixel response time. This is because the QLED technology basically uses LCD-panels lit by leds, but unlike regular LED displays, Samsung uses Quantom Dot nanoparticles, which basically produces great colors and lighting. Now I wouldn't say it the colors are just as good as an IPS panel, so if you're going to be photo editing and need sharp detail colors, then you might want to consider an IPS monitor but overall this as great colors and definitely very impressive! Gaming on this monitor is absolutely amazing!
Now not all games support an aspect ratio of 32:9 and it will display a 16:9 aspect ratio instead but a lot of modern games do support it. So with this monitor, you have a 49 inch curved screen, 144hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, and the freesync technology, which helps eliminate screen tearing for a faster and smoother gameplay. If you have an AMD setup, you will be able to benefit more from the freesync technology. So with all of that combined, it creates such a cinematic gaming experience because when you sit back, there's so much to look at and the monitor covers more area in a game, which creates a competitive edge over the competition. When you add the 144hz and the freesynch technology, it creates such a smooth gameplay with no stuttering or screen tearing and if you're coming from a 60hz, you will notice a huge difference. So even though this monitor only has a 3840x1080 resolution, it really does makes up in a lot of other areas such as the large widescreen and high end specs. As far as HDR, High-Dynamic-Range in gaming, all that means is there are certain games that are compatible to utilize the HDR technology, which produces deeper blacks, higher contrast, and is brighter. As far as the hardware requirements, I would recommend a GTX 1080, 1080ti, and the cutoff would be a 1070 and with the 1070 you might want to lower the settings a little. Overall this is an incredible monitor with high end specs and has a lot of areas where it really shines such as gaming and productivity. I would recommend this monitor to anyone that wants a large screen and you work on your computer where you have lots of application all over the screen and also wanting to game, then this monitor would be fantastic!
